Student integration program

Aruga Student Garden Leaders

The Aruga Student Garden leaders is an innovative initiative that seeks to address a number of increasingly pressing social and environmental issues.  The students that join our program support such initiatives as they provide valuable opportunities for us to engage with students from other disciplines, hold the potential for experiential and hands-on learning, and assist in bridging academic studies with the local community and environment. We also recognize that students in our department have valuable skills and knowledge to share with the local community, and a cooperative student garden is a chance to illustrate this.

A student-managed garden also assists in improving student access to reliable, quality local foods- an increasing concern for many students. The opportunity for students to connect more directly with their food source not only has an immediate effect on how they value and view local land resources, but introduces local agriculture to them alongside an invitation to get directly involved.
